How We Moderate Reviews & Community Content
This section explains what happens to content you submit — provider reviews, Expert Q&A questions, poll comments, and other community contributions — before and after it appears on ChooseHelp.
Light edits, always disclosed
We may lightly edit submissions for spelling, grammar, formatting, and clarity, and we mask profanity. Some of these edits are prepared by AI tools, but an AI edit only goes live after a person reviews and approves it. When a published review or question has been edited, it carries a visible note saying so — including whether the edit was AI-assisted. Your original submission is always retained unpublished in our records — an edit never replaces what you actually wrote.
What we never change
Edits never alter your meaning. We do not soften criticism, remove negative experiences, or reword allegations to protect a listed provider — and we do not publish selectively: a review is not held back or trimmed because it is unfavorable. Ratings are never changed. We do not write, commission, or publish fake reviews, and we do not accept payment to edit, remove, or suppress a review.
Automated screening, human decisions
New submissions are screened automatically — including with AI tools — for spam, profanity, personal data, and content that may need closer attention. Automation only flags and suggests; it never publishes, edits, or removes anything on its own. Every publish, edit, or rejection decision is made by a person applying this policy.
Reviews of treatment providers
Reviews reflect the reviewer's own account of their experience; ChooseHelp does not verify the events described and publishing a review is not an endorsement of its claims. Reviews must be based on genuine first-hand experience. Providers who believe a review is fake, mistaken, or unlawful can contact us (below) — we will review it against this policy, but we do not remove reviews simply for being negative.
What gets rejected or removed
We reject or remove content that is spam or advertising, impersonates someone or misrepresents first-hand experience, discloses another person's private information, contains threats or harassment, is unlawful, or otherwise violates these rules or our Terms of Use. If a submission suggests someone is in immediate danger, note that we cannot dispatch help — call or text 988 or local emergency services.
Questions, reports & appeals
To report content, dispute a review, or appeal a moderation decision, email contact@choosehelp.com with a link to the content. We aim to respond within a few business days.
How We Use AI on Directory Listings
Parts of our treatment directory are compiled from public sources, such as the SAMHSA treatment locator and providers' own websites. Before such a listing goes live, its data may be reviewed and prepared for publication with AI assistance — checking that the facility still operates, removing duplicates, and tidying names, addresses, and service details against public records. Listings published this way carry a visible “reviewed with AI assistance” note, and every prior value is retained in our records.
AI never invents facility details, writes fake reviews, or alters anything a provider submitted to us directly — data a facility supplies always takes precedence. If you operate a facility and spot an error, claim your listing to correct it or email contact@choosehelp.com.
These rules form part of the ChooseHelp Terms of Service and are incorporated by reference. In case of conflict, the main Terms of Service and applicable law prevail.
