More about Oxford House - Shadywood Park

A model of peer run recovery houses; in Alabama currently only for Men. Normally serves as a transitional home after a detox or a 28 day program.

A non-profit organization, residents are only expected to contribute to their fair share of the running of the house expenses, and since there are generally between 8-15 people per home, these monthly payments are low enough to be affordable to anyone who can work while in recovery. Residents must only abide by the rules of the home, but if they ever use drugs or alcohol while a resident, they are immediately evicted. Residents may stay as long as they need to, although most stay about 1 year.

Admissions Process

Oxford House is self-run, peer-supported recovery housing for women with children. There is no clinical staff on site and no walk-in admission — applicants are accepted by a vote of the current residents after an interview. Interviews are held Thu 4:00pm. Call the house on (503) 846-9602 to ask about openings and arrange an interview. The chapter contact for this house is Angela Long — (503) 312-5462. Please phone before visiting. Current vacancies are published by Oxford House at oxfordvacancies.com.

Amazing place to have a picnic, barbecue, walk with your dog, or just to take your kids to play. It's in the middle of a safe neighborhood with lovely people.

Many trees kept the park cool in the heat. The trunks were interesting to look at with holes and crevices for wildlife.
